Road Riding

Is Tuesday/Thurs a set ride every week or should one follow the forum for events? Sorry for he stupid questions but as mentioned prior Im new to the area. As well Im not on Facebook.

I'm not sure if there is an organized Tuesday evening ride.

Do know that there is a regular ride on Thursday evenings that leaves for the Bike Post (local bike shop-
530 Cotanche St, Greenville, NC 27858) at 6pm.

I also lead a ride on Saturday mornings at 8am from Boyde Lee Park 5184 Corey Rd, Greenville, NC 27858 which you are more that welcome to join anytime you like.

Overall all I have found the local bike community a little difficult to penetrate as I think many folks text and use various types of social media to communicate rather that 1 specific website that is kept up to date.

That being said every EC Velo event I have participated in such at the cotton century, a Mexican dinner last winter, and a Memorial Day group ride has been fantastic. At these events I have also met folks that we very friendly and willing to include me in their rides.

I do believe there is an early morning ride several days a week at the following locations but I have never been able to get a contact person or the times and days they ride.

  1. Church at intersection of Portertown and Ivy Rd
  2. Brook Valley

Also know that there are rides leaving form south central high school on the weekends but again have struggled to find a reliable source of contact to determine when they leave, how far they go, or how fast they ride.

Finally there is a triathlon group in the area call the Tricredibles and they are wonderful folks who are really strong on the bike. I know they do have regular rides but not really sure where or when or who to contact to ask.

Hope this helps and if anyone who reads this know a way to get linked up to these various rides please post that information in a response to this email or give me a call or text at 252-864-3904.

Richard as a fellow non-facepage user who doesn't use instatchat or snapgram I agree that getting updates from the club can be a challenge. I would recommend that you subscribe to the road riding forum so that you at least get alerts sent to your email. Most major things will be updated on the forum. Also you can at least see the Facebook page even though you don't have facepages.

As far as rides go here they are to the best of my knowledge:
-M, W, F mornings from Brook Valley Country Club. If interested in this I would contact Chris Davenport at 252-258-0038 for details. (sorry for throwing you under the bus on that Chris ;)
-Tuesday afternoon 6pm from Eastern Pines Church. This is usually around 10-12 people. Usually starts off at 20+mph out the gate and turns into a drop ride every man for himself within 5 miles. Know the route or have a GPS to get back on your own if you can't keep up.
-Wed I think they do a ride fromTAPPED bar off of firetower rd. Not sure on that one though as far as how consistent it is as have never made it.
-Thur afternoon 6pm from downtown Bicycle Post/BB&T parking lot. This used to be big ride but attendance has dwindled. Like Tuesday ride starts off quick and turns into every man for himself pretty quick. Know the route or have a GPS to get back on your own if you can't keep up.

As far as weekends go there is no set big group. Alan seems to be trying to get a consistent/well communicated thing going, but everyone else has their own little groups of equal fitness. Most all of these little cliques communicate via text messaging, so you are either in or not. There used to be larger group rides from set locations, but I think people got bored of riding same routes, got tired of waiting on slower riders, got frustrated with the fast riders, want to do more/less miles, want to ride at different times, organizers left town, etc. So the big organized weekend rides just slowly disappeared.

Moving to a new place is always tough. My suggestion is show up to as many rides as you can, talk to people on the rides, figure out who is of equal fitness/riding goals and go from there. Also I think most of us use Strava as well, so that might help you figure out who was on a ride with you if you forget names as fast as I do. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the spot on reply Josh.  Rarely helpful of you! ;)

Basically Josh laid it all out.  I would only add that we try our best (not 100% perfect) to keep the www.ecvelo.org main page updated with ride details.  Things will be pretty static for the summer, but once the days start getting shorter in the fall the times for the evening rides will get earlier.

As for the Wed ride this DOES happen but it is not nearly as well attended as Tues or Thurs so unless you confirmed with someone on the forum or on FB then be ready to ride alone.
