Dear Fellow Cyclist:
Do you want to know where your political candidates stand on issues important to cyclists? If so, please take a minute to look at a new site: www.vote4bikes.org.
Who we are: A very diverse group of cyclists in Charlotte who think it’s high time to connect with other cycling groups across the state. We are Sunday cruisers, triathletes, roadies, mountain bikers, commuters, fixies, messengers,
parents of strider bike riders – you name it; if it has two wheels and is human-powered, we have at least one. The idea originated at the Charlotte Area Bicycle Alliance’s (www.charlottebikes.org) annual meeting with
www.weeklyrides.com, www.charlottesportcycling.com, and
What are we talking about? The project is Vote4Bikes. Think your government isn’t doing enough to protect cyclists’ rights? Think we should have more bike lanes? Better crash insurance laws? A 3 foot passing rule? Our goal is
to present to you a non-partisan view of the law makers who are making, or willing to make, those things happen. So when you go to the polls in November, you know who wants to help cycling and who doesn’t.
How it works: Go to the site and click on your state house and senate districts. If you don’t know your districts, follow the link to the North Carolina Board of Elections site to find them.
Our goals: Our goals are two-fold: (1) we believe in power in numbers. If lawmakers know thousands of cyclists are watching what they’re doing, they’ll take note; (2) we also believe that knowledge is power. When you go to the polls in
November (and you better!) you’ll know who cares about cycling issues and who doesn’t. We won’t tell you how to vote; our goal is to provide you with information! Our long range goal is to use this project as a springboard for others uniting our interests
across the state. More on that later.
EVERY CANDIDATE HAS RECEIVED A LINK TO THE SURVEY. IF YOU SEE THAT YOUR CANDIDATES HAVE NOT ANSWERED, PLEASE WRITE AND ASK THAT THEY DO SO. THEY CAN REQUEST A RESEND OF THE LINK FROM
