Road Riding

Croatan Buck Fifty training group
Author Last Post

I posted a ride to Strava today that shows how we loop through the gravel roads I mentioned. If you do not have Strava I can try to convert it to a gps file.

I will look for a weekend day to do an introductory gravel ride for anyone who is interested. This would be a no drop ride where we can familiarize riders to the gravel riding realm.

...And it's really not that far to make the trip to the Croatan for some focused training.  You can enter the North section of the forest from New Bern and pretty much ride as far as you want with a couple loop or lollipop options.  Fell free to reach out if you want some route suggestions...

Thanks, Jason. All my contact information is listed on the site. Shoot me an email when you get a ride together. Don’t think I could hang with the A groupers, but I can hold my own with the upper Bs.

Stuart, the Buck Fifty is a great event! I am sure a cohort of club members will be targeting this race come the spring. There are good gravel segments north of town, namely Alpine-Taylor, Ellen Farm and Creek Bank Roads. A number of us use these roads extensively for gravel training. Would be happy to introduce you to these routes some time.

I was thinking about signing up for the 100-mile option of the Croatan Buck Fifty in March 2024. However, training during the Winter isn't the easiest thing to motivate myself to do. So, I thought: misery loves company; why not get a Croatan Buck Fifty training group going. I figure during the work week we could focus on cardio fitness (maybe do the fleet feet run, laps around the soccer fields at Blount Rec Complex, spin class at Fleet Feet) and on the weekends break out the bikes and do some riding. I'm not too in the know about local gravel routes, but I'm open to suggestions.
